Dog boarding license requirements in Alabama

What Alabama law says about licensing a boarding kennel or daycare, pets nobody picks up, and rabies. Checked November 2, 2026.

Kennel license

No state license

No state license. Check with your county or city; some Alabama cities issue their own kennel licenses.

Pets nobody picks up

Vets only

The law covers only veterinarians: a pet is abandoned 10 days after notice by registered or certified mail, return receipt requested. A non-vet kennel is not covered, so ask an attorney before rehoming an unclaimed pet.

Rabies

Required

Dogs must be vaccinated by a vet or rabies officer from 3 months of age.

Statute text was read on mirror sites (vLex, FindLaw), not the official Alabama code, and the license answer is an absence finding.

Facts, not legal advice. Laws change, and your county or city may have its own kennel permit: call them before you rely on any of this.
