What Louisiana law says about licensing a boarding kennel or daycare, pets nobody picks up, and rabies. Checked November 2, 2026.
No state license
No state license. Check with your parish or city; parishes may offer a kennel license for 5 or more dogs in place of individual dog licenses.
Covers kennels
If boarding charges go unpaid 10 days after you give the owner the invoice, send notice by registered or certified mail, return receipt requested. If the pet isn't claimed within 10 days of receipt, you may sell it, donate it, or turn it over to a shelter or animal control.
Required
Dogs over 3 months must be vaccinated by a vet.
The rabies rule was read on animallaw.info because the state's copy was blocked, so confirm it before relying on it.
